What Are Tectonic Plates?
You may have the question above in mind. Well, tectonics are thick pieces of rocks that make up both the earth's crust and the shape of our continents. There are many plate tectonics that make up the crust, but only 10 of them are considered the main ones. Either way, no matter the size, each of those plates are curved and are about 100 km (60 miles) in width. (Although, continental plates tend to be thicker than oceanic ones.)
