Our World's Tectonics
Our earth has more than 52 plates in total. Of all of them, there are only 8 main ones and 7 secondary ones. The main 8 are the African Plate, Antarctic Plate, Australian Plate, Eurasian Plate, Indian Plate, North American Plate, Pacific Plate, and South American Plate. The secondary ones are the following: the Arabian Plate, Caribbean Plate, Cocos Plate, Juan de Fuca Plate, Nazca Plate, Philippine Sea Plate, and Scotia Plate. There are so many different tectonic plates that many people believe that there is no exact number that should be taught. This is fairly correct because some people do have a defined number of their own, and if students learn with an exact number, it may be wrong to others.
